What is a .DCR file?

DCR is a Kodak camera RAW format. Opened in Adobe Lightroom.

Did you know
  • DCR is one of Kodak’s early digital camera raw formats.
  • DCR was produced by Kodak’s DCS Pro line of professional cameras, the descendants of the system that launched the digital SLR era.
  • Inside a DCR file the raw sensor data is packed using lossless JPEG compression, the same technique later seen in Canon’s CR2 and in Adobe’s DNG.
  • DCR captures the unprocessed mosaic from a Bayer colour filter array, leaving white balance and colour to be decided later on the computer.
  • Kodak’s digital SLR backs that wrote DCR were built onto Nikon and Canon film bodies rather than designed as cameras from scratch.
What Analyser shows you
Open camera RAW files from Sony (ARW), Canon (CR2, CR3, CRW), Nikon (NEF, NRW), Fujifilm X-Trans (RAF), Sigma Foveon (X3F), Olympus (ORF), Panasonic (RW2), Pentax (PEF), Adobe DNG and many more. Reads full EXIF and lens data, the true sensor resolution, GPS and histograms, recovers the Sony and Nikon shutter actuation count, and develops the RAW - decoding the sensor to a full-resolution image, or extracting the embedded preview when a true demosaic is not available.
