What is a .RAF file?

RAF is Fujifilm’s camera RAW format. Opened in Fujifilm’s software or Adobe Lightroom.

Did you know
  • RAF holds the raw output of Fujifilm’s distinctive sensor designs.
  • Fujifilm introduced the RAF format in 2000 with the FinePix S1 Pro and has used it across every later camera generation.
  • RAF files from X-Trans cameras record a six-by-six colour filter pattern instead of the usual Bayer grid, which needs specialised demosaicing software.
  • Older Fujifilm bridge cameras saved RAF files from SuperCCD EXR sensors as two interleaved sub-images, captured at different exposures or sensitivities.
  • A RAF file also stores the camera’s chosen film-simulation mode, such as Velvia or Acros, named after Fujifilm’s classic analogue film stocks.
What Analyser shows you
Open camera RAW files from Sony (ARW), Canon (CR2, CR3, CRW), Nikon (NEF, NRW), Fujifilm X-Trans (RAF), Sigma Foveon (X3F), Olympus (ORF), Panasonic (RW2), Pentax (PEF), Adobe DNG and many more. Reads full EXIF and lens data, the true sensor resolution, GPS and histograms, recovers the Sony and Nikon shutter actuation count, and develops the RAW - decoding the sensor to a full-resolution image, or extracting the embedded preview when a true demosaic is not available.
