What is a .ZTL file?
ZTL is a ZBrush tool file, holding a sculpted model. Created and opened by Maxon ZBrush.

- ZBrush made its public debut at the SIGGRAPH show in 1999, starting out as a quirky 2.5D painting program before becoming the standard for digital sculpting.
- A .ztl stores only the active ZBrush tool and its subtools, making it the compact choice for sharing a single character, prop or sculpt.
- ZBrush is built on proprietary “pixol” technology, which records colour, depth, orientation and lighting per point, and the program now belongs to Maxon after its 2022 purchase of Pixologic.

- .ZTL is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
