What is a .IDW file?
IDW is a 2D drawing from Autodesk Inventor. Created and opened by Inventor.

- Drawings in Inventor can follow several national drafting standards, including ISO, ANSI, DIN, GOST and JIS, selectable per document.
- An IDW drawing can only be opened in Inventor or the free Inventor View, whereas Inventor’s rival DWG drawings open in AutoCAD too.
- Inventor keeps drawing data in either IDW or DWG files that look identical, but IDW files are the smaller of the two.

- .IDW is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
