What is a .SBSAR file?
SBSAR is a procedural material from the Substance toolset. Used by Substance Painter and Designer.
- Did you know
- Game engines such as Unity and Unreal can load .sbsar materials through Substance plug-ins, letting artists tweak exposed parameters without leaving the engine.
- An SBSAR is the published, self-contained build of an editable SBS graph, embedding everything needed to render the material on its own.
- Publishing to SBSAR is one-way - the compiled archive cannot be decompiled back into its source SBS graph.
- What Analyser reads
- Identify design-app files: Figma (FIG), Sketch, Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher, Procreate, GIMP (XCF), Krita (KRA), Paint.NET, and Substance.
- Depth of analysis
- .SBSAR is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
- Open a .SBSAR file
- Drag a .SBSAR file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
