What is a .AUP3 file?
AUP3 is the single-file Audacity project format, based on SQLite. Created by Audacity.

- Audacity 3 moved to the self-contained AUP3 project in 2021, ending the old folder split.
- AUP3 stores the whole project inside a single SQLite database, so the audio and the project description can no longer drift apart.
- The change made closing a project slower, since everything now has to be written into one database file at the end.

- .AUP3 is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
