What is a .WPS file?
WPS is a document from Microsoft Works, the budget office suite.
- Did you know
- Microsoft Works was a cut-down, cheaper alternative to Office in the 1990s.
- Microsoft Works was sold from 1987 to 2009 and bundled a word processor, spreadsheet and database in one cheap suite.
- Microsoft retired the WPS format in 2006 and replaced Works itself with the free Office Starter edition in 2010.
- What Analyser reads
- Identify and read more document, ebook and publishing files: Scribus (.sla/.scd version, pages, fonts), MS Works and Windows Write, Word 97 templates (.dot), StarOffice 5.x binary docs, Shanda Bambook and Sony BBeB (.lrf/.lrx) ebooks, FrameMaker, document templates and legacy PageMaker.
- Depth of analysis
- .WPS is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
- Open a .WPS file
- Drag a .WPS file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
