  • Microsoft Works was sold from 1987 to 2009 and bundled a word processor, spreadsheet and database in one cheap suite.
  • Microsoft retired the WPS format in 2006 and replaced Works itself with the free Office Starter edition in 2010.
What Analyser reads
Identify and read more document, ebook and publishing files: Scribus (.sla/.scd version, pages, fonts), MS Works and Windows Write, Word 97 templates (.dot), StarOffice 5.x binary docs, Shanda Bambook and Sony BBeB (.lrf/.lrx) ebooks, FrameMaker, document templates and legacy PageMaker.
Depth of analysis
.WPS is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
Open a .WPS file
Drag a .WPS file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
