What is a .EAC3 file?
EAC3 holds Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC-3) surround audio, used by streaming and Blu-ray.
- Did you know
- Dolby Digital Plus extends the older Dolby Digital with more channels and higher quality for streaming.
- E-AC-3 stands for Enhanced AC-3, lifting the channel limit to fifteen full-bandwidth channels at up to 6.144 Mbit/s.
- Dolby Digital Plus is standardised in Annex E of ATSC A/52 and ETSI TS 102 366, and stays backward compatible with plain Dolby Digital.
- What Analyser reads
- Identify Dolby surround codecs - Digital Plus (E-AC-3), TrueHD, MLP, and Atmos - with channel-layout detection (5.1, 7.1).
- Depth of analysis
- .EAC3 is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
- Open a .EAC3 file
- Drag a .EAC3 file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
