What is a .HEVC file?

HEVC is another name for the H.265 video codec; a raw .hevc file is an unwrapped elementary stream.

Did you know
  • HDR10, the most widely supported HDR video standard, is defined on top of HEVC’s Main 10 profile, whose 10-bit colour depth is where the format gets its name.
  • HEVC was developed by the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding, a partnership of ITU-T’s VCEG and ISO/IEC’s MPEG groups.
  • As a standard it carries two names: ITU-T Recommendation H.265 and ISO/IEC 23008-2, also called MPEG-H Part 2.
  • HEVC can encode resolutions up to 8K Ultra HD, with picture sizes reaching 8192 by 4320 pixels.
  • It splits each frame into flexible “coding tree units” instead of the fixed-size macroblocks that older codecs used.
What Analyser shows you
Read the container, codec, resolution, and frame rate of MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM video, step through frames, and extract the audio track. Raw H.264/H.265 elementary streams (.h264/.265) are remuxed to MP4 in-browser so they play too.
Open a .HEVC file
Drag a .HEVC file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It opens entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
