What is a .FCPXML file?
FCPXML is Apple’s Final Cut Pro project interchange format - an XML description of an edit. Created by Final Cut Pro.
- Did you know
- FCPXML is the interchange format for Final Cut Pro X, introduced by Apple in 2011.
- Apple defines FCPXML with a Document Type Definition and publishes a versioned archive of every DTD release, so tools can target a specific revision.
- FCPXML is completely incompatible with the older Final Cut Pro 7 XML, known as XMEML, because Final Cut Pro X reorganised how a project is stored internally.
- Newer versions of Final Cut Pro can usually export an older FCPXML revision, giving third-party tools a backward-compatible bridge.
- Because it is plain XML describing an edit rather than the media, an FCPXML file is tiny next to the footage it refers to.
- What Analyser shows you
- Visualise editing timelines exported from Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Avid: CMX3600 EDL, Final Cut Pro FCPXML and OpenTimelineIO (OTIO). Renders the tracks with clip blocks positioned by timecode, plus durations, clip names and frame rate.
- Open a .FCPXML file
- Drag a .FCPXML file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It opens entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
