What is a .LOOK file?

A .look file is an Adobe SpeedGrade / Iridas colour grade - an XML stack of grading stages (basic correction, tints, wheels, curves, secondaries, vignette and more) that usually carries a baked 3D LUT of the final result. It is the format Premiere Pro and SpeedGrade share to move a complete look between projects.

Did you know
  • Adobe built SpeedGrade from the Iridas grading software it acquired in 2011, which is why the .look format and its baked LUT live on inside the Premiere Pro Lumetri colour pipeline.
  • Analyser handles .LOOK alongside related formats such as .CUBE.
  • In Analyser's format library, .LOOK sits in the Video category.
What Analyser shows you
Open colour LUTs (.cube - the Adobe/Iridas/Resolve 3D and 1D look-up tables) and Adobe SpeedGrade / Iridas looks (.look) and see exactly what they do: the neutral tone-response curve that reveals the contrast and colour cast, a before/after of a hue x brightness chart and memory colours (skin, sky, foliage) pushed through the LUT, and an interactive 3D scatter of the colour cube it defines. A .look is read as the SpeedGrade grade stack (basic correction, tints, wheels, curves, secondaries, vignette and more) with the baked 3D LUT it carries visualised the same way. Reads the title, grid size, input domain and extended (HDR / scene-linear) output range, all in the browser. The same .cube extension that Gaussian uses for volumetric DFT data is detected and identified separately.
