What is a .CTG file?
CTG is the catalog index a Canon camera keeps of the photos and videos in each folder. Holds no image data.
- Did you know
- A Canon camera writes a CTG to keep track of how many shots are in each DCIM folder.
- Canon cameras tuck CTG files in a hidden CANONMSC folder, one per image folder, just to track how many shots it holds.
- The camera deletes a CTG automatically when its photos are erased, and the file carries no image data of its own.
- What Analyser reads
- Identify and decode Canon camera catalog files (CTG) - the DCIM index a Canon camera keeps to track each folder: the catalogued folder path, folder number, recorded-shot count, and photo / movie / voice-memo entry counts. Holds no image data.
- Depth of analysis
- .CTG is an identification-grade format: Analyser recognises it from its bytes and decodes the header metadata it carries, rather than opening it in a full viewer. Formats that do get a full viewer are marked "Full" on the formats page.
- Open a .CTG file
- Drag a .CTG file onto the Analyser home page (or tap to pick one). It is identified entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works offline once installed.
